I’ve been hovering around at the edges of the crowdfunding world going on two years now, here are three things I’ve learnt so far…
Ask yourself and/or your team why you’re doing it. From talking to crowdfunding platforms they actually reject a growing number of applications because the project team or business is far from ready to raise any capital. It’s brutal truth, face in the mirror time.. Do it now with yourself and your team. Is your product or service up to scratch? Better doing a quite rejection and reflection from a crowdfunding platform than the crowd who at times, unbeknown to themselves can ask the most challenging of questions in the most public of manner. As much as possible get it right before hand.
Another thing you’ve got to do beforehand is most of the work. Not just making sure your product or service is at the top of its game but so is your team and business. After that, layout a timeline strategy to the day, if not the hour if your going all analytical in your social media campaigning. Get all your social media channels up and running, looking good e.g. correct pixels for the icons and engage and grow the audience as soon as possible. Fire out a few online surveys, ‘what would you think if we launched this type of product?’ etcetera…
Lastly, host live events not only to prove to the crowd that you exist and that you and your product are truly wonderful but also for social media content creation. Survey again on the floor, ‘did you see the campaign, any tweaks you think might be useful’, ‘Thank you for that retweet the other day’. Build lasting loyalty. Smile, take selfies with the crowd who have turned up. Be clear and on message. Say Thank You for coming. Build your Tribe.
